12 after winning both the grand jury prize and audience award at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival. Patton Oswalt stars as Chuck, a man who is cut off by his son Franklin (played by Morosini) and creates a social media profile based on a waitress he knows, Becca (Claudia Sulewski.) Though Chuck is just trying to connect with Franklin, his son ends up falling hard for Becca – and Chuck goes to increasingly elaborate lengths to keep up the ruse.
Hearing the premise, people tend to laugh or wince — sometimes both. It’s a delicate balance kept afloat by Morosini’s skilled script and direction as well as a fantastic ensemble that also includes Amy Landecker, Lil Rel Howery and Rachel Dratch.
