Before he found fame and became one of our most beloved actors in shows such as Only Fools And Horses and A Touch Of Frost, Sir David Jason was an electrician. Then during the Covid lockdowns he started spending more and more time in his toolshed and rediscovered his passion for making model rockets, restoring vintage motorcycles and running an electric train set.
So when he met The Repair Shop's Jay Blades the pair became firm friends and decided to film a new TV show together called David and Jay's Touring Toolshed for BBC2.
Jay has been particularly impressed with the rockets the actor builds and launches. “David is a tinkerer and loves tinkering with stuff,” he says. “Not a lot of people know that about David.
When I found out I thought, ‘We’ve got to do a show about this.’ I put it to me old mate and he said, ‘OK, let’s go for it.’ There are other people like David out there in the community, and we’d love to meet them, and that’s what we did.” It rapidly becomes clear that the pair don’t only share a passion for creating things. They also have similar fashion sense – mixing and matching flat caps, green gilets and waxed jackets.
