House of the Dragon is officially returning to HBO next summer. The second season of the Game of Thrones spinoff will air in early summer 2024, as long eyed by the Warner Bros.

Discovery-owned network. The news was confirmed by Casey Bloys at an HBO event in New York this morning, where members of the press saw the first trailer for the second season.

The show, which has finished filming and is currently in post-production, was largely able to continue filming during the summer as it has a largely British cast under Equity contracts rather than SAG-AFTRA ones.

House of the Dragon is set 172 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen. It stars Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans.
