Greater Manchester can expect a mostly dull and wet weekend ahead, with the chance of a bit of sunshine breaking through. Some dry, sunny spells will emerge in today's (Friday 1 July) second half, but the morning and early afternoon will be dominated by a mix of light and heavy showers.

The rain will start falling from 9am, quickly turning heavy an hour later. The showers should pause at 11am but will soon return, staying heavy until gradually turning light and then clearing up for 4pm.

Sunny intervals are forecast for the following two hours, as temperatures peak at a warm 18C. Yet more heavy rain is forecast, though, as the early hours of Saturday morning roll around. Light showers will fall until just before lunchtime on Saturday, according to the Met Office, with the rain letting up for cloudy skies for a while.
