An SUV has ploughed into a crowd celebrating New Year in New Orleans, leaving 10 people dead according to the BBC. 30 people are also reported have been injured.
The incident took place at the intersection of Bourbon Street, renowned for its numerous bars and clubs, and Iberville around 3.15am local time.
Eyewitnesses reported that a truck crashed into the crowd at high speed before the driver exited the vehicle and began firing a weapon.
Police returned fire shortly after. The city of New Orleans issued a statement: "Mass Casualty Event on Canal and Bourbon Street.
