Hope for Christmas together as government makes rapid testing care home promise

For families suffering the ­heartache of not being able to see vulnerable relatives in care homes, news that rapid testing could mark a return to visits by Christmas will be a relief.

But there were fears the Government would yet again fail to live up to its promise after the PPE failures and ongoing Test and Trace fiasco.

And care home bosses warned Matt Hancock’s pledge to reopen the doors to visitors over the yuletide period is unlikely to be achieved without ­significant additional funding.

Relatives of Alzheimer’s sufferers demanded the Health ­Secretary stick to his vow to roll out nationwide testing after a trial – as time is running out for them to see their loved ones who may not have long left to live.
