A garage owner has failed in his attempt to prevent four houses from being built on a car park in Altrincham where his customers leave their vehicles for repair.

Anthony Cartwright told Trafford’s planning committee that the loss of the land at Tipping Street would mean that he and other businesses nearby may need to relocate.

Mr Cartwright is the owner of Wolf Garage, adjacent to the site and has run his business for the last 20 years. Addressing the committee, he said: “I have eight to 10 customers cars parked on the land each day. “I understand that I have no right to park on the land, but there is no alternative provision.

There is space for one car to park outside the garage. “There are very limited spaces on the road during the day because there is mainly permit parking for residents only.” He said it had been the practice for the garage and other businesses nearby that their customers and staff to park on the privately owned land.
