Homebase will be permanently closing 13 branches across the country this month after going into administration in November. When the DIY and garden retailer announced it was entering administration, it explained that post-pandemic weaker consumer confidence and the ongoing cost of living crisis were the causes for its financial troubles.
Homebase CEO Damian McGloughlin last year described the past three years as "incredibly challenging" for the sector. He said: "Against this backdrop, we have taken many and wide-ranging actions to improve trading performance including restructuring the business and seeking fresh investment.
These efforts have not been successful and today we have made the difficult decision to appoint administrators." After entering administration, Homebase struck an agreement with retail conglomerate CDS, owner of The Range, for up to 70 of its outlets, which preserved approximately 1,600 jobs.
Further, B&Q has confirmed it will take over five Homebase locations earlier this month, in Altrincham, Basingstoke, Biggleswade, Leamington Spa, and Worcester.
