Hollyoaks star Nicole Barber-Lane has surprised fans with an unusual career choice, three years on from her iconic turn as Myra McQueen in the Channel 4 soap.

The 52 year old star, left the soap in 2019, after 13 years as the McQueen family’s formidable matriarch. Yet rather than continue acting since her exit, Nicole has opted to pursue an entirely different career choice as she has since become a Reiki practitioner - and even sometimes gives tarot and oracle card readings to her showbiz pals. The practice, which is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan, is considered to be a form of alternative medicine, and widely regarded by experts to be a pseudoscience.

Practitioners trained in the art use a special technique called “palm healing” in which their hands are placed on a person, in order to transfer “universal energy” to a patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.

While there’s no proof that the practice works beyond anything other than a placebo, it hasn’t stopped Nicole from loving every minute of her new vocation and there’s been no shortage of patients reaching out for help either.
