Plans had been made to create outdoor space at the Boar's Head, in Standish - normally frequented by walkers and regular visitors - but the crowds were much larger than expected.
Janet and Tony Jones have run the pub together for the last three years but say they never anticipated the volume of people who arrived on April 12, the first day back after lockdown.
The venue, which opened first opened in 1271 and lays claim to being England's second oldest pub, has a large outdoor space at its front and more seating at the rear.
