Historic visitor sites across Scotland set to close due to strike action

Historic visitor sites popular with tourists are set to close on Wednesday across Scotland due to strikes. Scots and visitors to Scotland are advised to check for closures before they travel, as locations across the country will be closed on Wednesday February 1.

This includes popular tourist sites, such as Edinburgh and Stirling Castle.The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) announced the strikes at over 100 sites across the UK tomorrow, joining many other industries in the biggest day of coordinated industrial action for decadesThe PCS workers will be joined by teachers, university staff and train drivers, as the disputes over pay and conditions rumbles on.The Trade Union Congress (TUC) will also be running events across the UK as part of their national ‘protect the right to strike’ day, in response to the new anti-strike legislation.A spokesperson for Historic Environment Scotland said: "Due to industrial action taking place across the country on Wednesday 1 February, we are asking visitors to check our social channels and website for any updates before they travel."We are working to keep disruption to a minimum at our staffed visitor sites, however, we will not be able to confirm opening times until that morning."Pre-booked tickets will automatically be refunded in the event of any sites being unable to reopen.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused, however, the health and safety of our visitors is our key priority."A spokesperson for the PCS said: "The strike on 1 February will be the largest civil service strike for years and signals a significant escalation of industrial action after a month of strikes over pay, pensions, redundancy terms and job security.
