People who are hoping to put down roots in Livingston should expect continued high demand for homes.Property experts say there are no signs of a slowdown in interest from families looking to set up home in town.Maurice Allan, managing director of Residential Property at estate agency and legal firm Lindsays, believes demand to live away from cities will see the market in the town continue to thrive. He spoke after recent data published by Rightmove saw Livingston listed as the fourth-highest place for price growth across Scotland in the last decade.

It reported that prices have gone from an average of £132,228 to £181,412 – a jump in house prices of 37 per cent. According to Rightmove, Rutherglen, near Glasgow, recorded the highest changes in the last decade at 41 per cent.

Mr Allan said: “The figures are very much what we would expect to see. “With Livingston being in striking distance of Edinburgh, you can live there and easily commute to your work. “That creates demand, which is reflected in the prices that homes there achieve.

And there are strong links in either direction on the Glasgow to Edinburgh line.” He added: “Livingston has seen a lot of new housing built in the past 10 years and we know that the demand for families looking to live there has been strong.“There are more flats than houses there too.“Taking into account the changing working habits that we have seen since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, with people willing to live further from the office because they are only commuting a couple of times a week, I don’t expect that demand to slow any time soon – in Livingston and across West Lothian.” Don't miss the latest news from the West Lothian Courier.
