Heroic mum loses leg on supermarket trip after hurling baby to safety

nurse who hurled her baby out of the path of an oncoming car has suffered life-changing injuries, her family have said. Ruby Flanagan, 24, travelled to a retail park with her nan on August 16 with a hefty shopping list as she was about to start weaning her five-month-old baby son, Leon, off formula.

She was carrying her child over a zebra crossing towards the Aldi supermarket at Bidston Moss Retail Park in Wallasey, Merseyside, when she was involved in a collision which saw her trapped between a silver Mercedes and a blue Volkswagen.

When she noticed the incident that was about to occur, Ruby, who works as a nurse at Arrowe Park Hospital, had the courageous idea to throw her baby out of harm's way, according to her sister-in-law Chelsea.
