A hero police officer who was murdered by two escaped prisoners has been refused a posthumous bravery medal on the 45th anniversary of his death.

George Taylor was slain by killers Robert Mone and Thomas McCulloch at the psychiatric hospital Carstairs in Lanarkshire. His family have been desperately trying to obtain a bravery award in his memory and were furious when a refusal letter from Scottish Secretary Alister Jack turned up last Tuesday, November 30 – the same day the dad of four was killed in 1976.PC Taylor, then 27, was the third victim of Mone and McCulloch after they had earlier killed a nurse and fellow inmate at the State Hospital.They lured him into a trap believing they were victims of a road accident and he was murdered in
