An NHS nurse was knifed as she tried to save victims of a stabbing spree at a village supermarket. Witnesses described a wounded woman wearing an NHS badge who had tried to stop the attacker at the Co-op in the Rhondda Valley village of Penygrai, yesterday.

An elderly man was killed and three other people - including 53-year-old nurse Lisa Wray - were injured. Church warden John Rees, 88, has been named by South Wales Police as the man stabbed to death, reports Wales Online.

John's dementia-suffering 87-year-old wife Eunice was said to have been waiting in the car for 15 minutes for her husband to return, as he was stabbed to death on their weekly shopping trip. Sign up to get the Mirror's biggest and best stories delivered straight to your
