Here's How BTS Feels About Mandatory Military Service

The subject of BTS‘ military enlistment remains a hot topic, and now, an executive from their agency is speaking out.

If you didn’t know, 28 is the standard maximum age that Korean men can wait to fulfill mandatory military service. However, the BTS members have been allowed to defer their military enlistment due to an amendment passed in December of 2020, often referred to as the “BTS military service amendment.” The law allows artists who receive the recommendation of the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to postpone their mandatory service until they turn 30 years old.

According to the current law, Jin would be required to enlist in the military before the end of 2022. Members of the National Assembly have proposed a bill that would exempt male artists who have made major contributions to the national interest from military duty. “The BTS members have currently left the matter of their military service in the hands of the company. BTS has already conveyed the message multiple times that they will accept the call of duty when the nation calls them, and they have not changed that opinion,” the exec went on to say. “However, the policy on military service has changed a little, and as the members are experiencing changes to the Military Service Act
