Harry Styles hits back at ‘queerbaiting’ accusations: ‘I’ve not publicly been with anyone’

Harry Styles has addressed accusations of ‘queerbaiting’, pointing out that he’s not made any of his relationships public.In recent years, Harry, 28, has adopted a more androgynous sense of style, famously appearing on the cover of Vogue in a gown, and pointing out that he’s not bothered by the separation between ‘men’s’ and ‘women’s’ clothes.Some have claimed that he’s using sexual ambiguity to appear more interesting, and have even accused him of ‘queerbaiting’ – a term usually applied to fiction, where an LGBT storyline or character is implied but never actualised.Harry, who’s currently dating Olivia Wilde, addressed the claims and told Rolling Stone: ‘Sometimes people say, “You’ve only publicly been with women,” and I don’t think I’ve publicly been with anyone.‘If someone takes a picture of you with someone, it doesn’t mean you’re choosing to have a public relationship or something.’During the interview, he also reflected on his upcoming role in My Policeman, which follows a police officer who engages in an same-sex affair with a museum curator, despite homosexuality being illegal at the time.

He pointed out that everybody, including him, has a journey with figuring out their sexuality and getting comfortable with it.It’s not the first time Harry’s spoken out on the claims that he uses sexual ambiguity to appear more interesting.In 2019, he told The Guardian: ‘In terms of how I wanna dress, and what the album sleeve’s gonna be, I tend to make decisions in terms of collaborators I want to work with.
