Wigan Warriors scrum-half Harry Smith reckons Jackson Hastings’ departure could “open a big door” for him to replace the Australian next season.
Hastings will join Wests Tigers on a two-year deal at the end of the 2021 campaign, bringing to an end speculation about his future beyond this season.
His second year at the DW Stadium will be his final one but head coach Adrian Lam is keeping an open mind about whether to sign a big-name replacement or put his faith in Smith.
Lam said homegrown star Smith will play a key role in the club’s future but the 21-year-old is hoping to prove he is the man to take Hastings’ place in the side from next season.
