Former England defender Stuart Pearce has suggested that Harry Maguire will be a crucial figure in Gareth Southgate’s England team during this winter’s World Cup.
The defender worked with Pearce at Under-21s level and has been described as a “smashing lad” by the former Manchester City boss.
Maguire will want to forget the past season with Manchester United, but will feature for the Three Lions in the coming week, as they take on Hungary, Germany and Italy in the UEFA Nations League.
The centre-half was subjected to fierce criticism from onlookers this season amid United’s woes. It led to England fans booing the player during March’s internationals before an abhorrent home bomb threat followed in April.
