Amid the ongoing speculation surrounding Prince Harry and Prince William’s tumultuous relationship and the hopes for a reconciliation, a friend of the two brothers has revealed that the pair shared a surprising conversation on Thursday, the day of Harry’s 38th Birthday.

The conversation happened completely by chance on Thursday afternoon, as both brothers were driving their cars in opposite directions, just one week on from their grandmother The Queen’s death.

William himself had just collected his three children from school when he drove past Harry, but in an unexpected turn of events, he soon reversed and stopped to speak to his brother. “The brothers drove past each other but then stopped, reversed, wound down their windows and chatted for a while,” a source told The Sunday Times. The humanising display of compassion and solidarity showed signs of the rift between the pair beginning to heal, but sources close to William told the paper that mending his relationship with his younger brother isn’t necessarily at the top of the agenda right now.

He is “solely focused on doing what is right to honour the queen”, explained the paper. William is “processing his grief and the death of his grandmother, rather than sitting there processing his relationship with Harry.” Rather than focusing on their fractured relationship, both brothers agreed that the focus should be on The Queen, whose funeral is due to be held on Monday.
