'Happy' four-year-old boy dies just two hours after being sent home by GP

A family have been left heartbroken after a four-year-old boy died when an underlying caused his heart to suddenly stop. George Thomas Spencer passed away on March 19, 2021, after teachers at St James Primary School in Clitheroe noticed that his breathing had become "raspy".

Mum Danielle later picked up her son from after-school club and soon realised he was having difficulty breathing, with dad Terry taking him for to the GP.

Dr Jill Osgood saw George that day at Clitheroe Health Centre, the Liverpool Echo reports. At an inquest into the youngster's death, held at yesterday (June 14) at Accrington Town Hall today, Dr Osgood said she was aware that George had a history of croup and had experience with other patients with the condition which can be "variable in its presentation".

However, after assessing George, Dr Osgood said she found his heart rate, temperature and oxygen saturation were all "within the normal parameters".
