A hapless thief claimed he'd found his loot, including a £200 bracelet, 'in a skip'. Lee Mullineaux, 26, was out stealing items from a car in Bolton less than a month a judge gave him a chance following an appearance in court in relation to a high speed police chase.

Now Mullineaux, from Bolton, has been jailed for eight months. He originally appeared in court in December last year after he was chased by police through Newton Heath.

Mullineaux came to the officer's attention at 3am on June 20 last year, because the rear lights of a stolen VW Golf he was driving weren't on.

He initially pulled over, near McDonald's on Oldham Road, but then sped off and drove down a dirt track, narrowly missing a parked car.
