Andy Winter is in wonderland after making his return from injury last week to take his place in the Hamilton Accies squad for the first time in four months.And he is hoping for an early Christmas present with a return to competitive action this weekend at home to Kelty Hearts.Winter hasn’t kicked a ball since August after breaking his metatarsal and suffering some complications along the way.But the striker was drafted in at the last minute for Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to title rivals Falkirk when Lee Kilday got injured in the warm-up, seeing him promoted to the bench.Winter didn’t get a run out, but he insists he is ready to play some part when Kelty come calling in League One tomorrow.The 21-year-old said: “I have been out for a while and last week was only my first week of training, so it is great to be back in there.“I was in the squad on Saturday but it was a big squad of 24, so I wasn’t on the bench initially.“I wasn’t stripped but the gaffer told me to stay ready in case something happened.“Usually that doesn’t happen, but Lee pulled up in the warm-up and although it wasn’t good to lose Lee, it felt great to be back on the bench and I would’ve been ready if I got the shout.“I fractured my metatarsal and it was a really tricky one.
It took a while to heal with where it was on my foot, so I was out for a bit longer than I expected.“But the medical staff were great with me so hopefully I will be back on the park soon.“I’m ready to go on if needed on Saturday.
I haven’t played any minutes yet, but even if it is just a 10-15 minute spell, if we need somebody to get a goal, I’ll be ready to go on.“I’m the kind of guy who just loves to help the team out any way I can and, hopefully, Saturday is the time for me to get back
