Hairy Biker Dave Myers receives huge emotional tribute with thousands taking part in ‘Dave Day’

TV chef Si King has revealed that an estimated 20,000 people will be participating in Dave Day, a tribute event for his late best friend and fellow Hairy Biker, Dave Myers.

Dave, who earned a reputation as one half of the motorcycle-riding cooking duo with Si, tragically passed away in February at the age of 66 after battling cancer.The community-driven event, "Dave Day", is taking place this Saturday (8 June) in Barrow-in-Furness, his hometown, to commemorate his life.The itinerary for the day includes a motorcycle procession all the way from London to Barrow-in-Furness, a live music concert, and a dedicated service of remembrance.This special day aims to raise funds for numerous charitable causes close to his heart, including cancer charities and the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children).

His widow Lili Myers previously said her husband would have loved the event, telling the BBC: "I think he's watching from wherever he is - watching and laughing." While speaking on BBC Breakfast, Si King indicated that the event would certainly be a "celebration of my best friend that we've lost" whilst acknowledging that it's bound to get "very emotional".

Surrounded by bikers sporting Hawaiian shirts as a fun nod to Myers' iconic style, Si reflected that the crowd was "pretty amazing", adding: "Everybody's got that lovely Dave sartorial elegance about them, ie dodgy shirt.
