After a few years away from the big screen, Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare in Love) is back, as we’ve learned that she’s set to star opposite Timothée Chalamet in A24‘s new film Marty Supreme directed by Josh Safdie.
The project will feature her first substantial film role since Avengers: Endgame back in 2019. While plot details are being kept under wraps, the pic has been reported as being loosely inspired by pro ping pong player Marty Reisman.
At the same time, sources close to the production stress that it’s a fictionalized original, rather than a biopic. It’s unclear for the moment who Paltrow will be playing.
Safdie and Ronald Bronstein penned the script and will produce alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24. For Safdie, who saw A24 produce and/or distribute his and brother Benny’s acclaimed films Uncut Gems and Good Time, Marty Supreme marks the first solo outing since 2008’s The Pleasure of Being Robbed.
