Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver are opening up about their on-screen romance. The Grey’s Anatomy co-stars joined cast members onstage at a D23 fan event Saturday (August 10) in Anaheim, Calif., and discussed their characters Teddy and Owen’s decades-long relationship, which began off-screen when they served overseas in the military. Kevin also proved how well he knows his co-star on the spot, when he lent Kim his jacket during the panel, picking up that she was cold from her body language. “I’ve been kind of shivering,” she admitted as she put on the jacket around her shoulders, adding that she thought if she kept “shifting” she might feel better, which Kevin noticed. “We’ve worked so much together that he picked up [my body language],” she noted, adding that she was actually “freezing.” “I feel so unbelievably safe [working with McKidd],” she admitted, referring to the actor as her “on-screen husband.” She credited some of their dynamic to their characters, who have been married before and are raising a blended family, and have gone through “intense” moments in their relationship. “It feels like a safe place that we created as actors in that relationship,” Kevin said. “Teddy and Owen met in combat and war and a military environment and I think the theme of their relationship has been trauma.
And they find in each other a place to heal … and keep each other warm and safe.” Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 premieres September 26 at 10 p.m.
