Green Day Tweaks Song Lyric To Slam Donald Trump & MAGA Agenda During New Year’s Eve Broadcast
deadline.comGreen Day reworked the lyrics to its hit song “American Idiot” during a performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest Sunday night to take a swing at Donald Trump and MAGA. “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda,” Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong sang during “American Idiot” on the ABC broadcast.
Armstrong swapped the line for “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” sparking online outrage from Trump supporters. It wasn’t the first time the group made the swap during a performance.
It last occurred in 2019 during the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas. In 2016, the band also chanted “No Trump, no KKK [Ku Klux Klan], no fascist USA,” during a performance of the song “Bang Bang” at the American Music Awards soon after Trump won the presidency.
