Greater Manchester Police are looking to fill the cells today (January 16) following the execution of early morning raids, checks on public transport, and traffic stops across one region of the city.
Aiming to catch and arrest 40 suspected criminals in one day, Oldham's police commander said "It's not about scaring people, it's about providing reassurance." The day of police action, named Operation Avro, is a GMP initiative that sees large numbers of officers from across the force take part in a coordinated push against hardened criminals and lawbreakers in one particular area.
This meant doors were kicked in and arrests were made at three separate addresses, all before the sun had come up over snowy Oldham.
Three people were arrested as part of the execution of these early morning raids, which all took place before 7am. This included a suspected drug dealer on Cotton Mill Road and a cannabis farm spread over three rooms of a semi-detached home on Williamson Crescent.
