Grandparents will not be able to safely see their grandchildren until tens of millions of people are vaccinated, England's deputy chief medical officer has said.
Professor Jonathan Van-Tam said "all of the rules still apply" even if grandparents have had their first vaccine dose. But in a glimmer of hope, Professor Van-Tam said the country was "tantalisingly close" to a time when our lives will change for the better.
He said it is currently very difficult to say whether it will be "possible or advisable" for anyone to go abroad on holiday this summer.
Taking questions from the public on Channel 4 News, Prof Van-Tam was asked by a grandmother how long after getting her first jab is it safe for her to look after her grandsons in her own home.
