The Randox Grand National is set to kick off this weekend, with millions of punters worldwide expected to back their favourite horse.
The race is the centrepiece of the meeting taking place at Aintree in Merseyside from April 11 to April 13. The main event is scheduled for around 4pm on Saturday, with thousands of racing fans anticipated to be in attendance.
A total of 34 runners will be chosen to compete in the four miles and two-and-a-half furlongs steeplechase. This number has been reduced from the previous 40 participants to help minimise the risk of incidents during the race. Prior to the Grand National, all participating horses are assigned running weights. On the Thursday before the Grand National, the top 34 runners in the weights that have not been withdrawn were confirmed.
