A gran was told she should put down her new puppy - just hours after bringing the tiny Dachshund home from the breeder. Beverly Monteith, from Nantwich, Cheshire, paid £650 to buy Honey in August. But just a day after bringing her new pet back from the breeder in Leeds, the 10-week-old pup started vomiting.

Beverly rushed Honey to the vet and was told she had contracted Canine Parvovirus, also known as Parvo. The animal medic gave the Dachshund just a 25 per cent chance of surviving the highly-contagious virus and suggested it might be better to put Honey to sleep, Liverpool ECHO reports.

The gran was also told it would cost £2,000 to treat her dog.Beverly, 55, said: "She was perfectly healthy when I saw her and we paid £650 on the Saturday.

On the Sunday, she became unwell and started vomiting. "I thought it was because she was away from the pack but Monday she was vomiting and passing blood.
