Graeme Souness pens Leeds United love letter amid 49ers takeover of Rangers as £50m masterplan becomes reality

Concerned Graeme Souness has rhymed off what he likes about rising Leeds United with owners 49ers Enterprises set to take control of Rangers.

The US-led takeover of Rangers in a multi-million pound deal which is being backed by the financial might of the San Francisco 49ers - which would see the group take dual control of both the English Championship side and the Scottish Premiership giants. Record Sport understands the SFA have ‘no issues’ with the sensational buy out proposal - which could see Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe to take a seat on a new-look Ibrox board with the deal expected to be rubber stamped by June.

And Souness, writing for The Daily Mail, has lauded the "passionate football club" at Elland Road after they moved to the Championship summit - before providing an ominous warning to the club.

He said: "I thoroughly enjoyed watching a game of football on Monday night, Leeds United against Sunderland. Two sides who will be seeing themselves as potential Premier League teams and with good reason."Elland Road has always been a difficult place to go.
