The government has said it would like to see all primary pupils back in school for a month before the summer holidays. A newly-released government document confirms the plan for a phased return, starting with Reception children and those in Years 1 and 6 from June 1.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed the plan in a speech on Sunday evening, stressing that the move is dependent on a low rate of coronavirus transmission.
The report states that older pupils in Year 10 and 12, who have key exams next year, should prepare for 'some face to face contact' with their secondary school and college teachers.
And, somewhat surprisingly to some, it says it would like all children back in 'for a month if feasible' before the summer holidays.
