Neil Gaiman fantasy series Good Omens is looking good to land a Season 3 renewal by Amazon and the BBC, I hear. In anticipation of the order for what will likely be the show’s last chapter, the options on the series’ main cast, led by Michael Sheen and David Tennant, have been picked up, sources said.
Not returning for Season 3 is Douglas Mackinnon, who served as executive producer, director and co-showrunner on the first two seasons.
Mackinnon revealed his departure from Good Omens on Instagram. Answering an ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike-related challenge to film/TV professionals to post a photo of themselves on the job, he ran an image from the set of the Prime Video/BBC Two series.
While he did not identify the production, fans recognized the set and started a Good Omens discussion in the comments section to which Mackinnon responded, “I’m not involved with this show anymore.” Mackinnon’s statement created a frenzy, leading a fan to ask series creator Gaiman about the director’s status on the Bluesky platform.
