The 2021 Golden Globes and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) are under fire for their choice to include Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari in the Best Foreign Language Film category, shut out from the Best Picture race.
The same thing was done to Lulu Wang’s The Farewell last year. The film is inspired by Isaac‘s upbringing as the son of Korean immigrants in rural immigrants. Steven Yeun stars as a father who moves his family from Korea to the farmlands of Arkansas in the 1980s to chase the American Dream. Yeri Han, Alan Kim, Noel Kate Cho, and Yuh-Jung Youn also star.
After the news was released, many celebrities came forward to protest this decision. “I have not seen a more American film than #Minari this year.
