The sad news was confirmed by Channel 4 and production company Studio Lambert, who said he passed away with his family by his side.
Pete, along with his wife Linda and son, George Gilbey, originally joined the Channel 4 programme for its second series in 2013.
The popular couple has been regulars since they returned to the show for the seventh series in 2016.
