A dad told how he was trapped in a burning building for 40 minutes while his son looked on helplessly. Gerry Bitten-O’Prey was sleeping in his top floor flat in the Dennistoun area of Glasgow when the blaze broke out on the first level.The 51-year-old was awoken to find his landing had filled with smoke.
The healthcare worker was forced to wait until fire crews were able to reach him.Gerry’s husband John and son Mitchell had been out shopping when the fire started at around 1.20pm on Monday.
The dad, who had been asleep before working a night shift, was left panicking and unable to find his pet cat.He told Glasgow Live: “I noticed the dogs had a terrified look on their faces then I looked up through a glass panel above the door and it was just black with smoke.
I opened the door and the smoke just started pouring into the flat.“I have a cat so I was trying to find her but I couldn’t see her anywhere.
