Gerry Marsden’s family have paid an emotional tribute to the star who died yesterday aged 78, saying: “He was our hero”. The Gerry and the Pacemakers star, whose hit You’ll Never Walk Alone has become one of the most famous football anthems in the world, passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Daughter Yvette told the Mirror: “We are absolutely devastated....he was our hero. He was a fabulous, fabulous man and a fabulous grandad and husband.
He had an infection in his blood and it attacked his heart very very quickly but he died peacefully.” Marsden, who married wife Pauline in 1965 and had another daughter Victoria, underwent a triple bypass heart surgery in 2003.
