Kenny McLean will provide reliability and a calming influence for Scotland at Euro 2024, according to his former team-mate Stephen O’Donnell.Cambuslang man McLean is preparing to kick off Euro 2024 in Germany this week and could play a role in the tournament’s opening game against the hosts on Friday night in Munich. The 32-year-old was key to Scotland’s qualification for the finals after scoring that memorable last-gasp winner in a dramatic late turnaround against Norway in Oslo. And now he will be aiming to make more memories with the national side over the coming weeks as part of the 26-man squad competing at the country’s first major tournament appearance on foreign soil since the 1998 World Cup in France.O’Donnell, who represented Scotland at Euro 2020, believes the Norwich City midfielder brings plenty to the table.
The Motherwell defender said: “I grew up with Kenny. He was in the same Aberdeen team as me. His experience in games and his calmness is a big thing.“His physicality is good as well, he has got pretty much everything.
Kenny has had a good career and I will be looking forward to seeing what role he has in the upcoming games. At this stage now, the team has been together that long, they all bring their own characteristics to the table and Kenny is a lively lad.“I think if you look at the number of caps Kenny has, the manager trusts him.
Okay, he might not start every game but the manager can lean on him when he needs to see out a game or we need to go for a win because he knows the quality that Kenny has, both defensively and offensively.
