A teenager has donated a ­defibrillator to a schoolboy who could die at any moment after she read about him in the Mirror. Lex Lawson, 11, has a heart condition that means being startled by alarms or pranks can stop his heart.

He has to be close to a defibrillator at all times but has been given the gift of freedom from Cody Hartley, 19. She surprised him with his own machine at home on Friday to his delight.

It is the ninth defibrillator she has given away since she started fundraising from the age of 11. In 2013 she read about 12-year-old Oliver King who died in a swimming race.
