In the last 12 months, more than 1,000 women and children have turned to Renfrewshire Women’s Aid for help. With those numbers comes increasing pressure on the Moss Street charity to ensure that everyone who walks through their front door has what they need to escape their past life. That’s why Rae Gilbert – of Renfrewshire Women’s Aid – was delighted when author Jeff Holmes walked through the door. All proceeds from his book, 16 Incle Street, which tells the story of Paisley man John Gallacher who brutally murdered his wife, Maggie, in 1924 have gone to the charity.Rae said: “When Jeff told us that he wanted to put the profits from the book our way we were absolutely over the moon.
Jeff was true to his word and came in recently to hand over a cheque for £1,644, which is a fantastic amount for us to receive.“He told me that, due to the subject matter of the book, we were the perfect charity for the cash.
