A Stewartry club has chalked up 70 years of taking the floor for eightsome reels, the Gay Gordons and strip the willow. And to celebrate the milestone around 30 members and friends of Gatehouse Scottish Country Dancers gathered in the local community centre for a buffet supper and an evening of dances and reminiscences.
The dance programme, which included the popular favourites Duke of Perth, De’il amang the Tailors and Miss Gibson’s Strathspey, was devised by teacher Carol Clark.
The dancing was followed by an excellent buffet provided by Masterpiece of Kirkcudbright, accompanied by a slideshow illustrating the history of dancing in Gatehouse.
Group treasurer Mike Paul outlined to the News how the club began just eight years after the end of the Second World War – and has been going strong ever since.
