Starz has unveiled its first-look at Watergate drama series Gaslit starring Julia Roberts and Sean Penn. The series, which launches April 24, tells the story of Martha Mitchell, played by Roberts, the wife of Nixon’s loyal Attorney General, John Mitchell, played by Penn, who is the first person to publicly sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in Watergate. However, the team behind the series said that it’s not a “girlboss overcorrect of history” or a “Wikipedia run down” of events behind the taking down of a President. The series focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of the scandal – from Nixon’s bumbling and opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down.Betty Gilpin, who plays Mo Dean, speaking at the show’s virtual TCA panel, said, “We keep the reality of the grey areas.
