Former Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer has been appointed Salford City’s new manager until the end of the season. Bowyer has agreed to become Salford’s third manager in just over four months and replaces Richie Wellens, who was sacked on Monday.
Bowyer, 49, leaves Derby, where he had been the Rams’ Under-23s coach since September, and his last management post was at Bradford until he was sacked 13 months ago.
He had a successful two years in charge of Blackpool and led them into League One when the Seasiders won the 2017 League Two play-off final.
Bowyer has been hired by Gary Neville and his Class of ’92 co-owners to try and engineer a promotion push and the Ammies are ninth in League Two, eight points off the play-offs.
