Gary Lineker requested a ridiculous fee of £50million to appear on Celebrity Big Brother - and the show’s bosses took him seriously.The 64-year-old presenter announced in November that he would be stepping down from his iconic role on Match of the Day in May 2025.
Lineker has long been synonymous with the BBC football highlights show thanks to his 26-year stint in the job. He will continue fronting the BBC’s coverage of the FA Cup for the 2025/26 season, as well as the 2026 World Cup, as other networks look to land him for their own channels.The legendary former England striker revealed exactly that during the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast.
Speaking to co-stars Micah Richards and Alan Smith, he admitted ITV had approached him for various shows, which he vowed to never appear on.
And according to Lineker, his agent even decided to have some fun at the broadcaster's expense by requesting a fee they knew ITV wouldn't pay for his appearance on Celebrity Big Brother. "Do you know last week I got a request to go on Celebrity Big Brother?" Lineker told his fellow former footballers.
