Gary Goldsmith, star of Celebrity Big Brother, has defended himself against criticism for joining the popular ITV show during a difficult time for his niece, Kate Middleton.

Royal fans have been worried about Kate, who recently had abdominal surgery. After the 43 year old's planned operation on January 16, many were concerned when she disappeared from public view for a while.

Kate was last seen in late December, enjoying a Christmas Day walk with other Royal family members in Sandringham, Norfolk. While Kate is recovering, her uncle Gary, 58, has entered Celebrity Big Brother.

Fans are excited at the prospect of him possibly sharing some Royal family secrets while on the show. Gary is the younger brother of Carole Middleton and uncle to Kate, Pippa and James, reports the Mirror, and he's had quite a debut on the reality show.
