Gary Barlow had a close encounter with a tiger shark while filming for the second series of his show, Gary Barlow's Wine Tour in Australia. "Just as we were about to dive in, the guide at the back of the boat said, 'There's a tiger shark,'" Gary recalls. "I looked and I caught the back end of this shark heading off.
It was very big. All the guides thought it was incredibly exciting – but it was terrifying. It definitely had us on our guard." The Take That frontman, 54, is back on ITV one year after a successful first season in South Africa – and he felt the pressure. "I thought we couldn't beat South Africa and I couldn't have been more wrong," he admits, "I was worried that it was going to feel like we were making the same show again." However, some of his experiences in Australia surpassed his expectations. "Margaret River [south of Perth] is now one of my favourite wine regions in the world," he reveals. "I'm desperate to go back." For Gary, the six-part series was a unique opportunity to merge his two loves – music and wine.The filming coincided with Take That's This Life tour in Australia, marking the band's first return to the country after thirty years. "It's probably the only time I'll ever shoot this series where we'll be on tour in the country," Gary shares. "It just seemed too much of a lucky thing, a major coincidence that we needed to build on.
It just felt absolutely perfect." Gary initially worried not many of his celebrity guests would be willing to make the long journey to Australia for the series.
However, he was pleasantly surprised when a host of familiar faces jumped at the chance. "I was thinking, well how are we going to get guests for that?" Gary muses. "But we had an abundance of people who were.
