Gareth Southgate is reputedly in the running to receive a knighthood in the New Year Honours list for his services to football.
Southgate, 54, was awarded an OBE in 2019, months after leading England to the World Cup semi-finals the previous summer. The then Prince Charles presented him with the award at Buckingham Palace later that year.
Since then, the Three Lions have reached the European Championship final in consecutive editions, and rumours arose during both tournaments that Southgate would become a 'Sir', regardless of whether England won either.
Now that the coach is no longer in charge of the national team after resigning following their defeat this summer, a knighthood will seemingly come his way in the new year.
