Renowned bakery Gail's has defended the sale of spruced-up, unsold croissants after an online backlash. The upmarket chain, which started in London in 2005, has branches on King Street in the city centre as well as Altrincham, Didsbury, Wilmslow and Knutsford.
They are best known for their fancy loaves, maple bacon brioche and afternoon tea treats. But it is another item which has sparked furious debate after it was spotted by one eagle-eyed customer.
The company offers croissants and pain au chocolate that weren't sold the previous day, topped with almonds, for £4.50 and £4.60 respectively.
