Future of Stirling's historic Langgarth House to be decided after devastating fire

The future of one of Stirling’s most historic city centre buildings is to be assessed after a blaze at the weekend.Firefighters rushed to the scene at derelict B-listed Langgarth House, in the grounds of Stirling Council’s headquarters at Viewforth, around 5.50pm on Saturday.While the blaze was eventually extinguished and no one was injured, it appears to have left extensive damage, including to part of the roof and upper floor.Two teenagers were expected to appear at Stirling Sheriff Court yesterday (Tuesday) in connection with the incident.Council leader Councillor Chris Kane said: “This is an incredibly shocking and serious incident.“My thanks go to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police Scotland and Stirling Council’s officers on site for their professionalism and dedication throughout the weekend.“Given there is a police investigation, it would be inappropriate to go into further detail at this time.”Stirling MP Alyn Smith described the fire as a “sad sight” and also thanked police and firefighters who attended.A Stirling Council spokesperson said work will get underway to establish the extent of the damage, commenting yesterday: “The building is still not deemed safe to enter.“However, we hope to begin work as soon as possible to establish the full extent of the damage and consider next steps.“Security measures were in place at Langgarth House before the weekend and further security cameras have been installed, as well as additional fencing to extend the perimeter of the site.“We would ask members of the public to stay away and respect the safety cordon.“As this matter is now subject to criminal proceedings, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”Confirming the arrests, a Police Scotland
